Mark the date on your calendar – July 21st, because the Chantry Island Cham-bettes are about to hold their 2nd annual ‘Sally Armani’ Rummage Sale to raise funds that will go back into the community.

The sale features better quality merchandise including clothing, purses, shoes, jewelery, scarves … everything to put together a designer outfit from head to toe.

Last year’s sale was so popular that the Cham-bettes have extended the hours this year from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

One of the groups that the Cham-bettes help to support is the Special  Olympics.  Saugeen Shores has one of the most active Special Olympics organization that includes both summer and winter sports.

Katie Kranenburg says that Special Olympics is also funThere are 30 bowlers who bowl once a week and then, every four years, they bowl competitively and have gone on to both Provincial and National tournaments.

Carly Underwood recently returned from Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) where she claimed the Bronze medal.  In competition in Alberta, she brought home Gold.

Athlete Katie Kranenburg is an all-year athlete competing in bowling, bocci ball, floor hockey and more.  In Vancouver, the team captured a Silver and in Manitoba she came home with a Gold and Silver in individuals.

“If we did not have local support, we could not keep this organization going,” said von Hunnius.  “This is the largest Special Olympics group in southwestern Ontario and, while the athletes are very competitive, it is also a social opportunity and fun.  It’s also very important that they received recognition and so each player receives a plaque and a medal.  So we really appreciate the support that the Cham-bettes give to us.”

The Cham-bettes are accepting gently used men’s, women’s and children’s items at various drop-off locations as above.  For those where transportation may be difficult, pick-ups can be arranged.
